Delta Touch Faucet Problems and Troubleshooting

The Delta faucet company produces a wide variety of faucets that come in different finishes and styles. Delta faucets require repair and maintenance due to several problems that may arise in the long run. In such a case, troubleshooting should be done first before replacing the unit. Here is a troubleshooting guide to help you out:

How to Install a Delta Touch Faucet

  1. Fix the faucet to the counter and secure the mounting support to the sink. The light at the base should be facing forward.
  2. Install the check valves on cold and hot water inlets. Tighten both sides of the inlets using a wrench.
  3. Ensure the water inlets are closed. Move the faucet handle to complete the mix position. Open both water inlets slowly to flush lines to ensure no debris is lodged in the sprayer and hose.
  4. Close water inlets and faucet valves. Dry the tube using a soft piece of cloth.
  5. Install clip.
  6. Ensure the batteries are well aligned with the +- on the cap and +- on the box.
  7. Turn on the water inlets and the valve.
  8. Check for leaks. If any, retighten but do not overdo. If everything is well assembled and there is still a leak, confirm if the seals are damaged and get the correct replacements.

A Dripping Delta Touch Faucet

If your Delta faucet spout tub or shower faucet is dripping, it could be as a result of a cold or hot valve.

To troubleshoot the hot valve:

  • Turn off the hot water inlet. If you can’t locate the shut-off for your valve, turn off the water supply to your house.
  • Depending on your handle type, remove the handle using a Philips screwdriver or an Allen wrench.
  • With the help of an adjusting wrench, remove the chrome bonnet.
  • Remove the stem extender.
  • Pull the stem assembly straight to remove it.
  • Remove the springs and the seats.
  • Check them for debris and wear and clean.
  • Replace the springs and the seat.
  • Replace the faucet and check if the dripping has stopped.
  • If it continues, repeat the same process on the cold valve.

Replace the stem assemblies if you have replaced the springs and seats and realize there is no change. If the problem is not fixed up to that point and your valve is over 10 years old, chances are the actual faucet body is leaking. If so, replace your shower/tub valve.

Touch Faucet Activation Problems

If your Delta touch faucet was manufactured before 2009, then the grounding clips might have lost grip. Ensure they are secured with tape in the correct position and have not been bumped off with use.

Remember that grounding is not applicable in Delta touch faucets manufactured before 2009. Check if your faucet has a green ground wire. If not, it does not require grounding.

The Delta’s spout can be in electrical connection with the sink. Ensure that the spout is well insulated.

It is important to have the popup changed to the supplied non-conductive popup with washroom products. Also, make sure that the spout LED wire and sense wire are not in contact with the metallic components under the sink. If the issue continues, follow battery wire, spout sense wire and LED wire to the back of the cupboard.

Below are other troubleshooting guidelines for the same problem:

  • If your Delta touch faucet activates as other appliances operate, replace the solenoid with a new one.
  • Check if the sensor wire hook is well secured to the fixing shank.
  • If you are using Delta faucet AC (Alternating Current) adapter, make sure the outlet is well fixed and grounded.

Resetting a Delta Touch Faucet

After replacing your batteries on the faucet and ensuring that they are well aligned, identify the reset button, which is on the battery compartment or adjacent to it.

Press the button to reset your Delta faucet. Then, test the LED light and the faucet to confirm if everything is working as required.

If your faucet does not have the reset button, you only need to replace the batteries and ensure they align well.

Delta Touch Kitchen Faucet Troubleshooting

If your Delta touch kitchen faucet shows very low flow:

  • Remove the aerator and clean it with a mixture of water and white housed vinegar.
  • If the low flow continues, detach the hose from spray and clean remains from the screen.
  • If it does not improve the flow, remove the solenoid valve inlet and clean the debris filter.

When cleaning the aerator, avoid polishes, abrasives, and bleach-based cleaners.

Ensure you’ve reinstalled the screen in the solenoid and the aerator back to the spray head. Otherwise, they will damage internal components.

If your faucet leaks from spout outlet or from under handle:

  • Insert and remove a small screwdriver into a slot in the button.
  • Loosen the set screw inside of the handle and remove it.
  • Rotate the bonnet counterclockwise and remove it. The bonnet might be stiff because of the O-ring but rotate it by hand. Remove the bonnet nut using a wrench.
  • Remove the cartridge and replace it.
  • Reassemble your faucet and ensure the bonnet nut is well tightened using a wrench.

LED Light

When the LED light is:

Solid magenta - the water temperature ranges between 270C (800F) and 430C (1100F) or the solenoid valve is open.

Solid blue - the water temperature is below 270C (800F) or the Solenoid valve is open.

Solid red - the water temperature is above 430C (1100F) or the Solenoid valve is open.

3 red flashes before solenoid close or open - Replace batteries.

Solenoid Troubleshooting

When your faucet spout shows a red light thrice repeatedly:

  • Replace with new batteries. If the low battery indication is still on, check if the batteries are aligned well in the battery box.
  • If the spout still shows a red light indicator, replace the electronics kit and the solenoid.
  • When the faucet spout indicates the right light, but water is not coming out: Confirm if the faucet handle is in the “on” position and if the water inlets are switched on.
  • Move the handle to the off position. Remove the hose and check for any debris in the inlet. Move the handle to one position to confirm that the water reaches the sprayer. If not, replace the head.

When your LED base indicator does not indicate any light:

  • Check if the spout connector is connected to the spout and the wire from the electronics kit/solenoid. It is loose or disconnected, reconnect it and confirm for correct orientation.
  • Replace the batteries.
  • When connected and the indicator does not display any light, replace the spout assembly or electronic base.

Delta Touch Faucet Batteries

Normal double A (AA) batteries last for about two years under normal conditions. “C” batteries can last for about 5 years. Depending on the battery you are using in your Delta Touch faucet, you can replace them after that period.

Battery Replacement

  • Locate the battery box and confirm that all the batteries are there. If they are dead, replace them with new ones. Some models would indicate when the batteries are dead with a red light on the box.
  • Close the battery box and lock it properly.
  • Locate the reset button and push it to reset your faucet. Test the LED light and the faucet to ensure they are working.
